The ASEAN Energy Transition Initiative is a legacy program of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Philippines. It serves as the primary regional platform connecting the private sector with policy to accelerate Southeast Asia's shift towards a low-carbon economy through converting mandates into viable commercial projects.
The initiative will be concretized through two sets of high-level meetings: the Energy Roundtable Series and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Advisory Group Meetings. The roundtable series shall be a convening ground for high-level dialogue among key stakeholders with the purpose of providing actionable inputs for the regional energy agenda. The AZEC Advisory group is a specialized body that directly provides regional market data and recommendations to support AZEC's activities.
Strategic Objectives
These activities are expected to help form the foundation of green energy transitions in the region through the following ways:
Increasing the spread of next-generation technologies and support for an interconnected ASEAN Power Grid
Expanding green financing through developed pathways such as international green bonds, developmental loans, private equity, and other financing channels
Streamlining financing by matching institutional investors with vetted renewable energy projects
Establishing the groundwork for an aligned regional carbon accounting and trading perspective
Safeguarding ASEAN communities during the phase-out of traditional fossil fuels through economic transition plans and localizing the manufacturing of clean energy components
In pursuing robust funding pipelines and cultivating public-private collaboration, the ASEAN-BAC intends to drive a sustainable and just energy transition in the region that is both sustainable and economically integrated.
