Digital Trade Digital integration

The Digital Trade Initiative aims to accelerate the unification of ASEAN's digital economy by creating a seamlessly interoperable trade ecosystem that connects each of the 11-member association's digital trade domains across the entire cross-border trade journey.

The initiative builds on the Philippines' progress in customs modernization, electronic invoicing, digital payments, logistics systems, and financial technology, while addressing interoperability gaps through the development of a Philippine Digital Trade Roadmap, which is aligned with the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

To make this vision a reality, ASEAN-BAC Philippines convenes the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), and a larger coalition of government agencies, business organizations, financial institutions, logistics providers, technology companies, exporters, and importers through the Philippine Digital Trade Ecosystem Workshop.

The initiative is implemented through public-private Technical Working Groups (TWG) covering Digital Identity and Trust, Digital Transactions and Trade Documents, Digital Finance and Payments, Digital Logistics and Supply Chains, and Digital Trade Facilitation and ASEAN Connectivity.

The goals of these TWGs are creating verified digital business identities; digitizing commercial transactions such as points of sale, e-invoices, and contracts; turning digital trade data into financing and payments; digitizing the movement of goods such as e-bill of lading and cargo visibility; and connecting Philippine systems to the ASEAN single window and cross-border frameworks.
